Yesterday afternoon one of our families at FCC was impacted by death. Death intruded the home of a young family and it took the life of a 39 year old mom who leaves behind a great husband, a wonderful daughter (10), a mom and dad, a brother and sister, and many, many others. It’s one of those experiences when frankly no one expects it or can even believe it. Sickness isn’t supposed to wreak that level of hardship on such a young person. So, can I ask you to pray for them? Pray for enduring strength for the family. Pray for the Holy Spirit to provide the peace that passes all our understanding. Pray for grace and mercy and hope to fill the homes and the conversations of this family. Pray for the church to rise up and be their steadfast support. I know you will.
As I was driving home from the hospital yesterday afternoon I thought, “Life happens so fast. Death can come without any notice. Death can show up when least expected or when most unwanted.” Have you considered that lately? Has that thought impacted your conversations with your kids? With your spouse? With your friends? Shouldn’t it? Shouldn’t the truth that any day can be our last day impact how we live? What we say? Where we set our priorities?
It might be time that all of us truly wrestle with the real significance of this day.
